It was almost three years ago that Diary of Dreams delivered their last musical masterpiece with “MenschFeind”. The band took their time to make sure the follow up was going to be in every respect as overwhelming and convincing as the Nigredo trilogy, and as ever with the German cult band, it has been worth the wait. “the Plague” is the mighty harbinger of the upcoming ninth album, scheduled for release at the end of October. Take one look at the cover and you’ll know that, thematically as well as visually, it continues right there where “MenschFeind” left us in the dark.
The title track comes along in two very different versions, proving again the incredible versatility and flexibility of the band. “Allocution”, the next track, offers a first taste of the extremes we might expect from the album: This sensitive and touching ballad is the emotional counterpiece of the brute and domineering “the Plague”. The final song on this silvery appetizer is a “memorial version” of DoD’s classic hit “Traumtänzer” that has been included here as a big thank you to all fans – to say thanks for the incredibly memorable Nigredo tour where this song has been celebrated worldwide! … And of course, just as we could expect, the next extensive tour will not be far off!
